Michael Fassbender cast in Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus,’ the ‘Alien’ prequel

Michael Fassbender will star opposite Noomi Rapace in Prometheus, Fox’s sci-fi project that is some sort of an Alien prequel.

Ridley Scott is directing the movie, which just shifted release dates, moving from a March 2012 berth to a high-profile summer release of June 8, 2012.

Scott said the movie will have “Alien DNA.” Fassbender is playing an android.

Fassbender was one of the breakout stars from Inglourious Basterds, also landing the high profile role of Magneto in Fox’s X-Men: First Class.

He was offered the Prometheus role last year (when it was first rumored to be the Alien prequel), with talks on and off throughout the fall.

Fassbender also was considered for Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, but now that he has been cast Prometheus.
