Michael De Luca to produce ‘Suicide Squad 2’ with Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto all returning

Michael De Luca will produce Suicide Squad 2, confirming the Warner Bros. change in strategy.

Ever since DC’s last release, Justice League failed to make its mark at the box office like Avengers and other comic book blockbusters, the studios has moved quickly to steer in a new direction.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros.’ planned sequel to David Ayer’s film will have De Luca leading the way. He won an Academy Award for David Fincher’s The Social Network and he’s worked on are Blade 2, the Ghost Rider movies, Moneyball and the Fright Night remake.

Variety stated that “Charles Roven will remain the lead producer on Suicide Squad 2 and sources say Roven was very supportive of De Luca coming on board…”

Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto have been confirmed to return for Suicide Squad 2, which will be written and directed by Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant, Warrior). It’s almost certain fans will see Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Karen Fukuhara as Katana.

The first film listed a budget of $175 million and earned over $745 million globally despite being trashed by critics and most fans. Our thoughts on Suicide Squad HERE

The movie is expected release in 2019, with filming scheduled to commence later this year.
