‘Messy Beautiful Love’ Review: Great advice and tough love on the road to redemption, God’s love
Author Darlene Schacht wastes no time being transparent as her confession of adultery may shock Christian readers, while simultaneously ripping away the “Holier Than Thou” facade which permeates the 2014 Church.
Messy Beautiful Love is a lifeline, a cry out to folks in the darkest of places that “You are not alone” and Schacht offers a journey that may rock your relationship with Jesus Christ and God.
It only takes Darlene a little over twenty pages for her truly challenge the reader’s view of love: “True love, the way God intended it to be, is more than a feeling and much more than two words.”
This may sound obvious, but our society is treating marriage as disposal as your iPhone or pair of running shoes. Once there is a newer model or the current one isn’t “as comfortable,” we (as a society) look to make a change.
Schacht digs in deep to speak with wives, challenging them to encourage their husbands, change their lifestyle and (one of the greatest chapters) “Give Up Your Right to Be Right!”
The book needs to be required reading before marriage to stop the criss of divorce in America. Sadly, Darlene stands up in a noisy room to tell women the truth: men feel a lot of pressure as a spiritual leader, not all men are Prince Charmings (so, stop fooling yourself) and strong women need to allow their man to lead.
As a man, the book didn’t always resonate with me personally, but I found myself nodding in agreement during each chapter. Schacht uses real life letters to express the real life struggles and problem in the real world.
Her words of advice and answers to questions are relatable whether your marriage is in crisis or not, whether you are having problems or not, but I fear too many women won’t crack open the book for themselves. This sad result will be a feeling of “I told you so…” but it doesn’t have to be.
Overall Messy Beautiful Love receives 4 out of 5 stars
Add a star if you need that extended hand if infidelity is or has been a problem with your marriage. Especially if your are a woman, this book should be a standby for a coming crisis: in your marriage, your family or just a friend. The stark reality of our society will only be changed one household as a time and Messy Beautiful Love is the perfect ammunition to shoot the crisis if and when it strikes.
