Medical conspiracism: Monsanto, autism and the CIA-HIV link
In a new survey publish in the JAMA Internal Medicine this week, researchers from the University of Chicago looked at some of the more common “medical conspiracies” and how much the public subscribes to them.
These include fluoride in water, the CIA and HIV and autism and vaccines.
This was done in a nationally representative, online survey of 1351 performed last fall, and this is what they found:
37 percent of respondents agree that the Food and Drug Administration is deliberately keeping the public from access to natural cure for cancer due to “big pharma” pressure.
20 percent agree that health authorities know that cell phones cause cancer; however, they believe that they are kowtowing to the corporations.
20 percent believe that doctors still want to vaccinate children despite knowing they cause autism.
And 12 percent of respondents agree with the following three conspiracies:
The CIA was behind deliberately infected African Americans with HIV, Monsanto and genetically modified food are part of Agenda 21 and the fluoridation of water is just a way chemical companies harm the environment.
