Media avoiding coverage of New York’s ‘ghoulish radical’ abortion law
A new report from Newsbusters summarizes how the mainstream press has been silent on New York’s new abortion law which has been widely attack by the Catholic Church and pro-life groups.

“…none of the major national TV networks has bothered to mention the story. This deafening silence is in stark contrast to the alarmist coverage seen when a state passes legislation that the media see as curtailing ‘abortion rights.’”
They continued: “An analysis by the Media Research Center found that New York’s Reproductive Health Act has not received a second of airtime on any of the major broadcast (ABC, CBS, NBC) or liberal cable news networks (CNN, MSNBC) since it was signed into law on January 22. The new legislation legalizes abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy in some cases, and it permits healthcare workers other than abortion doctors to terminate pregnancies.”

From CNN’s coverage on Jan. 23, titled “New York puts in measures to protect access to abortion even if Roe v. Wade is overturned”: “Not only will the law preserve access to abortions, it also removes abortion from the state’s criminal code. This would protect doctors or medical professionals who perform abortions from criminal prosecution. The law also now allows medical professionals who are not doctors to perform abortions in New York.”
A quick search of “MSNBC New York abortion law” yielded ZERO results.
The day of, Jan. 22 NBC wrote an article titled “New York State Lawmakers Set to Pass Bill to Codify Abortion Rights” and then went silent until this post today: “Gov. Cuomo shrugs off Catholic criticism of abortion law.”
What are those critics saying?
It was condemned by prominent pro-life organizations, and it has even ignited a debate within the Catholic Church about excommunicating Andrew Cuomo, the state’s governor who signed the bill into law. New York-based Cardinal Timothy Dolan has called it a “ghoulish radical abortion-expansion law, which allows for an abortion right up to the moment of birth.”
Do journalists really wonder why the fake news label is so fit?
