Matt Ryan on ‘Constantine’ season 2

NBC’s Constantine wrapped up its 13-episode first season on Friday with an episode titled “Waiting for the Man,” which saw the return of Papa Midnite and Jim Corrigan, plus some new information about the Rising Darkness. That said, star Matt Ryan is with the fans, waiting in limbo since the show has not been renewed for a season 2.

“I am very, very, very hopeful,” Ryan tells Hitfix. “Obviously he’s such an amazing character and I feel like we’ve got so far to go with it. I think there’s so much potential with the series, with the source material, with the character and it’s something that I would really love to continue exploring. Yeah, I’m very, very hopeful. Obviously it’s out of my hands. It’s in the hands of the Gods, as they say, but I’m very hopeful, very, very hopeful.”

“The plan very much is to do a Newcastle episode. I think the original plan was to introduce the members of the Newcastle crew — like we’ve done with Gary Lester and Anne Marie — bring them in and actually go back to that time when that happened,” Ryan says to Zapit. “My understanding of it was it would be some kind of flashback episode where we actually see what happened with Astra.”

Comicbook.com sat down to interview Ryan who then said: “I think we’re actually just skimming the surface. That’s the great thing about it. The source material, there’s so much we can do with it and the potential is so huge. So we hope as well that we get a second season and we can continue to do that.”

He confessed that his favorite series was Dangerous Habits and he would like to see the Family man arc for season two.
