Maryland police have arrested Abiathar Vance, charged with three counts of human trafficking
Police in Maryland have charged a man with human trafficking after authorities said he trapped a 16-year-old girl into prostitution.
Frederick police said Abiathar Vance, 39, was with a 16-year-old girl whom he had brought to Frederick to engage in prostitution at a hotel.
Officers responded to a report of a possible abduction on Saturday, stating that the incident was not abduction but did involve human trafficking. Police said the girl was a runaway from Prince George’s County in Maryland.
Authorities took the girl to a hospital for an evaluation and released her to her parents.
FPD investigators believe Vance transported the girl to the Frederick area and encouraged her to engage in prostitution for him. Police also think Vance and the victim knew each other prior to the incident.
They charged Vance with three counts of human trafficking.
