Marvel releases more details for ‘Doctor Strange’ ‘Guardians 2’

Marvel has offered up some details on two of their big Phase 3 movies, Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The studio said: “Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch),  who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions.”

“Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.”

“The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage.

“Old foes become new allies and fan favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.”

Kurt Russell has been cast in an unknown role for the sequel, thought to he be playing Quill’s inter-galactic father.

Fans will also be excited by the line, “old foes become new allies”, suggesting the Guardians will team up with Benicio Del Toro’s Collector, Karen Gillan’s Nebula or even Michael Rooker’s thuggish Yondo.

Director James Gunn previously revealed she would have a bigger role in the new movie, saying that “[I’m] excited to have Karen Gillian around more [on set].”

The director had recently confirmed Marvel’s commitment to more merchandising of Guardians of the Galaxy’s female stars.

Gunn wrote on Facebook: “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will have Mantis, Nebula, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Elizabeth Debicki’s character as part of the fray.

“We’re committed to making sure they’re included in more toys and merch than the last go round.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives in theaters next year on May 5, 2017 while Doctor Strange opens in November of this year.
