Marvel officially announces Brie Larson as ‘Captain Marvel’ lead
Marvel Studios to put on a grand show in Comic-Con’s Hall H and this year was no exception. The studio finally got to talking about their first solo female superhero movie, Captain Marvel, announcing that Brie Larson will indeed play the titular character.
Larson will play Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who gains powers after she’s exposed to alien DNA. Her special abilities include super-strength, flight, and the ability to shoot energy from her hands.
Larson won her first Oscar for leading Lenny Abrahamson’s Room. Next up for her are Kong: Skull Island, starring Marvel favorite, Tom Hiddleston, Free Fire from Ben Wheatley. She is now shooting The Glass Castle, which reunites her with Short Term 12 director Destin Cretton. Her other past credits include Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, 21 Jump Street, The Spectacular Now, and Showtime’s United States of Tara.
Most fans believe Captain Marvel may make a cameo in 2018’s Avengers film. This solo project doesn’t have a director attached, but Marvel is said to be seeking a female to helm the project, possibly Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) or Niki Caro (Whale Rider).
“Woke up this morning thinking about the tidal wave of support I got this weekend. It was nerve-racking to trust fall into the Internet!” Larson wrote in a recent Instagram post after SDCC.
“I know who I am, but it’s wild how quickly you can forget once someone calls you something terrible. I was reminded how the acceptance of community is a deeply rooted need — but I don’t want to live worried people will hate me because I’m myself! We should all have the freedom to be our authentic selves without fear or judgment.”
“[P]eople can be mean, but they can also be so many other wonderful things too. Let’s make this place a safe space. No hate and more understanding.”
Captain Marvel arrives in theaters March 8, 2019.
What happened?
When I was growing up in 40s and50s. Captain Marvel was a male hero.
In fact I bought the Captain Marvel Serial for my Grandson. There were comic books, too.
I’m very disappointed the Captain Marvel hero and Billy were changed.
Please Correct the Captain Marvel error. I was looking forward to taking my Grandson to a real Captain Marvel from my childhood.

Ernest,
It sounds like you may be thinking of Captain Marvel, known as Shazam. He is a DC character and will be getting his own film as well but that’s a different project/different company
