Mark Pellegrino previews ‘The Returned,’ and talks Carlton Cuse
Carlton Cuse made a name as a Lost co-creator before landing the Psycho prequel series, Bates Motel, on A&E. Now Cuse adapts a popular French series, The Returned, with Mark Pellegrino as the lead.
Pellegrino spoke with Dispatch Radio about the show ahead of the debut on March 9.
“Fantastic” is the first adjective from Mark as he discusses the pilot, getting the role of Jack and describing the “scary stuff, the mystery, the problems to solve” and the complexities of the deceasing “returning” in this small town. “There’s a Sci-Fi element and really really strong character driven drama.”
A&E has set a straight-to-series 10 episode season one and Pellegrino co-stars with Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Live Free or Die Hard, The Thing remake), India Ennenega, Sophie Lowe, Jeremy Sisto, Tandi Wright, Aaron Douglas, Leah Gibson and Dylan Kingwell.
On Jack, Pellegrino says he’s “every man” – “I like his flaws, how he deals and doesn’t deal with his grief and that becomes a major problem…” adding how he’s trying to put/keep his family together.
Cuse is “The same Carlton that I knew back when we were doing Lost. He’s always just a dynamic guy and always interested in story and how to make the most truthful story…” describing him as “outside of the box” and details his approach with the actors.
