Mark Burnett gives update on ‘The Bible’ movie, saying they finished recutting Jesus part of film
Mark Burnett revealed that he has made progress on the upcoming movie version of the popular television miniseries The Bible.
Burnett was a speaker at Produced By, where he spoke with Producers Guild of America National Executive Director Vance Van Petten. At the end of the panel, Burnett spoke about his next move in the scripted television genre:
“Roma [Downey, his wife] and I clearly will do a follow-up to ‘The Bible.’ No question about that. Something big. We also just finished re-cutting the Jesus part of ‘The Bible’.”
“A lot of things have come our way since the Bible, that’s how the business works. Roma [Downey] and I will do a follow up to The Bible, no question to that, something big,” said Burnett.
“I believe that in the next 15 years, more people on the planet will have seen our Bible series that haven’t seen it,” Deadline reported him saying.
The Bible debuted on March 3 to 13.1 million viewers, becoming the highest-rated cable show of the year. On Easter Sunday, 11.7 million viewers tuned in to its last episode. It is also the fastest-selling DVD for a miniseries ever.
“It’s a God voice,” Burnett told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s clearly a calling; clearly, we felt it was something we had to do, and too many things happened to explain it any other way. It’s a juggernaut, and it’s not going to slow down.”
