Margi McCombs, American Bible Study, offers tips to discuss Jesus Christ with kids
While the American Bible Society released the Five Tips For Talking to Kids About the Story of Jesus ahead of Son of God, there are several faith based films landing in theaters, so The Global Dispatch/Dispatch Radio spoke with Margi McCombs about these helpful tips.
Margi is American Bible Society’s Children’s Ministry Senior Advisor and discussed many of the points brought up in the initial ABS release: plan and talk about Jesus before viewing a film, discuss historical context to help children understand events like the crucifiion, encourage kids to shield their eyes or look away if the content bothers them and have age appropriate discussions about the Virgin Birth, Satan and Demons.
“It’s developmentally appropriate to know who your children are and what they can handle and what they are thinking about,” McCombs says of the significant responsibility on parents to discern these distinctions. “With young children realize in cognitive development children move from concrete to abstract thinking. So young chilren are very concrete and they believe whatever, basically, whatever you tell them.”
This only overviews the topics, so check out the full interview below.
