Manny Pacquiao will not fight in the United States because of the high taxes
In an interview provided by Thaboxingvoice Saturday, the promoter of Filipino boxing star, Manny Pacquiao, Bob Arum said that the Congressman/pugilist will not fight in the United States due to the high tax rate.
When discussing an April fight with Juan Manuel Marquez , Arum said, “He doesn’t want to fight in the United States. How come? Because he’d have to give close to 40 percent to the government.
“I mean you know, it’s getting ridiculous, Arum exclaimed. As far as Manny is concerned, and Marquez, they would prefer that the fight not be in the United States.
That’s what happens when you raise taxes and you say, well, let the rich pay and so forth. Boxers are in the category where they are rich. It was bad enough paying 35 and now they’re paying 40 percent –enough is enough.”
“These big foreign fighters don’t want to fight in the United States.”
Arum says they are looking at Macao and Singapore to host the fight.
