‘Man of Steel 2’ ‘Cyborg’ and ‘Justice League 2’ no longer in the works for Warner’s DCEU
Warner Bros. and DC Films announced they were restructuring the DCEU following the poor reception and domestic box office performance of Justice League, and fans at the Brazil Comic Con got their first look at the new slate.
On the list are: Wonder Woman II, Aquaman, Flashpoint (The Flash feature film), Justice League Dark, Suicide Squad 2, Shazam, Batgirl, Green Lantern Corps and The Batman.
Joining the list of changes with the lack of Justice League 2 is the Cyborg film, originally set for 2020 and a sequel to Man of Steel.
Flickering Myth also asks: “Where that leaves Gotham City Sirens, Harely Quinn and the Joker, Margot Robbie’s solo Harley outing, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, Deathstroke, and Nightwing, is anybody’s guess?”
Ambitious plans have now taken a step back after box office mediocrity.
Justice League crossed $650 million globally to close out 2016, being described as the “Highest grossing bomb ever” in a new article by Forbes.
“Justice League will be ending its domestic run over/under $240 million, meaning it will essentially be like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Transformers: Age of Extinction. But those two played huge overseas and thus both crossed $1 billion worldwide. The DC Film superhero sequel was never going to do $700m+ overseas, so a solid domestic performance was of paramount importance. And when that didn’t happen, a $400m+ overseas total wasn’t nearly enough to save it. So the recut over/under $300m-budgeted tentpole is looking at a global total of approximately the $668m worldwide cume of Man of Steel.”
“Justice League is one of the few movies that could gross “just” over/under $650 million and be considered a whiff. Most superhero movies, most animated biggies and pretty much everything else under the sun would be considered a glorious triumph with such a figure. Save for maybe a Star Wars episode, Avatar 2, an Avengers sequel or a top-tier Pixar sequel like Toy Story 4, Justice League is somewhat unique unto itself in terms of being able to make so much and still be considered a bomb.”
[…] Man of Steel 2 is said to be in development with a rumored announcement coming this Summer which includes a director and release date, this after the film was not on the studio’s schedule. More here. […]
This is all lies! I know first hand. And when it hit 600 million it broke even and MoS is happening soon so is more Harley Quinn.
