Mads Mikkelsen praises Gareth Edwards, ‘Rogue One’ story and being ‘natural’
Hannibal and Casino Royale actor Mads Mikkelsen opened up the next chapter in the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars Rogue One, speaking with Star Wars News Net (via Yahoo News UK), starting out by praising Rogue One director Gareth Edwards.
“[Gareth Edwards’] vision was wonderful,” he said. “He was a natural, man,” presumably meaning the dark and gritty appearance of the new film.
Mikkelsen then goes on to talk about his portraying Felicity Jones’ character — Jyn Erso’s father.
“I would give away spoilers if I told you what kinds of scenes I have with [Felicity Jones],” but err… they are characters. They’re not ‘character’ characters… but they all serve their purpose and we have to be aware, obviously when you do a film like this, that it’s not your show. You’re serving a purpose or you’re telling a story of someone else, but you’re a part of it.”
“The project is so enormous, you’re surrounded by five hundred people, but he did the only thing that you can do in that situation and that is making it small… making it a small scene, just the five of us or the two of us.”
The interview has many more detailed quotes from Mikkelsen, head over to Yahoo News UK to check it out.
Erso is key to the rebels’ plan to steal the Death Star plans, the same plans carried by Princess Leia in the opening of A New Hope.
An appearance by Darth Vader seems likely, but no Han, Luke or typical lightsaber battles are expected. Forest Whitaker takes center stage as a mysterious character and Jones will be join by a new batch of actors primed for stardom: Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed and Diego Luna.
Ben Mendelsohn is the new character walking in the long white cape. A young Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) will lead rebel forces and Sherlock star Jonathan Aris has been cast as a Senator.
Fans get their yearly dose of Star Wars as Rogue One arrives in theaters on December 16, 2016.
