Madeira dengue fever update

In the latest update on the Madeira dengue fever outbreak, European health officials report an additional 53 cases since the last update, according to a European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Communicable Disease Threats report Dec. 28.

According to health officials, as of 16 December, 2,103 cases of dengue infection have been reported in Madeira. This is up from 2,050 cases the week prior.

Thirteen European countries have so far reported dengue cases in travelers returning from Madeira.

The ECDC says that Portuguese health officials will stop reporting regular updates on the outbreak.
