Louisiana Prayer Day Just Adds To List Of Comedy Central Ridicule
As the Louisiana State Senate designated Sunday as a day of prayer to seek God’s intervention to stop the oil leak, Comedy Central was eager to with more rigorous attacks on Christians and God. Senator Robert Adley led a movement to unite all faiths to pray for divine intervention to resolve this disaster.
Adley:
“Thus far efforts made by mortals to try to solve the crisis have been to no avail. It is clearly time for a miracle for us.”
I know, as a Christian, our faith instructs us to look to the Lord in all things and for our leaders to seek God’s will in all things. Of course, a bold act of faith and conviction led to criticisms and mocking from our friends on the left.
So let’s go to Jon Stewart after playing the Senator’s comments:
Apparently Louisiana mortals, uh, only get sixty days to solve the problem. After that, f*** it, let’s call God.
And he Lord said unto His people, oh uh, have you tried a large cement dome or maybe you could shoot golf balls or some trash er…
Uh, if you’d excuse me, there’s a 12-year-old girl in Tulsa who wants boobs and a cell phone, I’m going…
God was mocked as they showed the leak still gushing.
Benign jokes? Sure, but the pattern of prejudice against Christianity (especially compared to reluctance to attack Muslims) is a long and insulting.
- On “South Park” Jesus is a porn addict as Buddha snorts cocaine and all of the religious figures are part of a running oral sex joke (compare that to the spineless handlings of Muhammad)
- “The Sarah Silverman Program” featured a bit in which the lead character has a sexual relationship with God, during a fight she refers to him as an “anus.”
- “Ugly Americans,” a character named “Christ Angel” abuses women.
- Denis Leary proclaimed someone must have “banged the hell” out of the Virgin Mary during their special “Merry F*ing Christmas”
- New show called “JC”: show is about Jesus Christ “wanting to escape his father’s enormous shadow to live life in New York City as a regular guy
The aforementioned South Park deserve their own category, even they are eager to offend anyone and everyone. From the Cultural Media Institute:
- 2000: A priest was depicted having sex with a married women in a confessional.
- 2002: Catholic priests defended and promoted child molestation
- 2003: The main character started a Christian rock band and sang sexually charged lyrics including, “I want to get down on my knees and start pleasing Jesus, I want to feel his salvation all over my face.”
- 2005: A statue of the Virgin Mary menstruated on Pope Benedict XIV
- 2006: Jesus defecated on President Bush and the American flag
- 2007: Jesus was killed in a bloody stabbing. He was resurrected and murdered Catholic League President Bill Donahue, who had become pope.
- 2009: The show attacked Christian abstinence advocates.
The network is just providing comedy, so where’s the harm?
Their statement on “JC”: “JC is a playful take on religion and society with a sprinkle of dumb”
This show development came just weeks after it censored two episodes of the animated series South Park to remove references to the Muslim prophet Muhammad following threats of violence made against the show’s creators.
Christians are sensitive because there countless examples in society where they are unilaterally the target. Hollywood, New York, California liberalism needs to understand that some backlash will come as the recipient of the mocking usually gets frustrated as being the “butt” of the joke.
If nothing else, it’s another reason to avoid Comedy Central, not participate in any way that would benefit their show.
Personally I just don’t see the need to rail on Christians over and over again. Most of it has been done and really has lost its humor. Due to this content, I would agree with Christian outrage to never watch these shows, but I’d never join a boycott, letter writing campaign to stop their right to do produce these shows.
Psalms 14:
1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
2The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
Fools indeed, because if you believed you wouldn’t behave in this manner.
