Lindsey Graham says Donald Trump ‘selling fear and prejudice’ appealing to ‘the dark side’
One of the GOP Presidential candidates Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) appeared on This Week with George Stephanopoulos on Sunday and discussed the appeal of Donald Trump.
Answering to “the nature of Donald Trump’s appeal,” Graham launched into attack mode.
“He’s appealing to the dark side of American politics. He is not offering solutions to hard, complicated problems. He is basically selling fear and prejudice.”
Stephanopoulos then asked “why’s he doing so well?”
“There’s a market in both parties, if you say outrageous things. There’s a market in my party for people. If you say that Obama‘s not born in America, that he’s actually born in Kenya, there are people who want to believe that. If you say most illegal immigrants are drug dealers and rapists, there are people that want to believe that.”
Graham joked that Trump helped him get a new phone, alluding to the back and forth which began as Trump revealed Graham’s personal cell phone number during a live television broadcast, resulting in a viral video of Graham destroying said phone.
