Letter to President Obama ‘preliminarily tested positive’ for Ricin

Just a day after authorities discovered a letter addressed to Mississippi Republican Senator  Roger Wicker that had tested positive for the toxin, Ricin, the FBI is investigating a letter addressed to President Barack Obama after the contents preliminarily tested positive for the deadly poison, according to a Reuters report today.

FBI officials say said the envelope was received at a mail screening facility outside the White House and was immediately quarantined.

Officials believe the letters sent to Obama and Wicker were related based on language and postmarks. Reuters reports the letters included the phrase, “To see a wrong and not expose it, is to become a silent partner to its continuance,” and were signed, “I am KC and I approve this message.”

The envelopes both bore postmarks from Memphis, Tennessee and were dated April 8.

In addition, reports of several suspicious packages or envelopes plaguing Capitol Hill abound.

Fox News reports, separately, the office of Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., reported a “suspicious-looking letter” at one of the senator’s Michigan offices; and a spokesman for Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., reported a “suspicious letter” was intercepted at Flake’s Phoenix office. Authorities were also called to the Dallas office of Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, over what was described only as “a piece of mail” — but field tests later came back negative.

Authorities say there is no indication of a link between the poisoned letters and the Boston Marathon bombing.
