Leila Chandrapaul, age 37, was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived to a 19th floor apartment on King Street near Weston and Lawrence.

Sunday morning Areef Khan, age 34, was arrested for the incident and he has been charged with second-degree murder, police told the press.

A forensics team unit was at the scene, visibly combing through both the recycling and garbage bins outside of the building.

Khan was scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1200, Det Sgt Peter Trimble at 416-808-7400 ext. 77394, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS.

Stabbings in Toronto had already reached a four-year high as the area also saw a rise in shootings.

Overall homicides will likely become a four-high as well, eclipsing the total of 2010.
