Legendary pop singer Patti Page dies at age 85
Patti Page was one of the best selling artists of the 1950s, famous for the “Tennessee Waltz” and had over 100 chart hits during her long career.
Page was born Clara Ann Fowler, and began her singing career in 1948 with the release of her first single “Confess,” which became a hit despite the fact that the much better known Doris Day also had a recording of the same song out at around the same time.
The “Tennessee Waltz” was one of the biggest-selling singles of the 20th century and Page had three additional No. 1 hit singles between 1950 and 1953, with “All My Love (Bolero)”, “I Went to Your Wedding”, and “(How Much Is That) Doggie in the Window”.
In 1997, Patti Page was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. She will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award in 2013.
The singer passed away New Year’s Day in Encinitas, California at the age of 85.
