Large Cache of Drugs Seized in Toronto in Two Separate Incidents

Two Toronto men and a third man from Peterborough are facing serious charges after Peterborough police seized fentanyl, cocaine, heroin and a substantial sum of cash from an apartment.

The three men were initially stopped at a gas station after arousing suspicions of police and the seizure of the drugs and the money occurred afterwards during a search of an apartment on July 17th.

One of the Toronto men, Sedonick Atkins, 26, is being charged with four counts of possession of cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, as well as a single count of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000. The second Toronto man, Christopher DaCosta, aged 31, is facing charges of failing to comply with a recognizances and a probation order.

The third man named James Sakellarakos, also aged 26 and from Peterborough, is facing charges of cocaine trafficking. All three were scheduled to appear in court.

This latest incident follows a similar search and seizure that happened when Peterborough police discovered a large cache of fentanyl, cocaine and heroin and other drugs, cash, ammunition and stolen property in a Braidwood Avenue home. Two local men are facing multiple drug-related charges.

The first man, Leroy Bennett, 57, was charged with five counts of possession of a Schedule I substance including heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, hydromorphine and oxycocet for the purpose of trafficking; possession of a Schedule II substance – marijuana under 30 grams – for the purpose of trafficking; and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and careless storage of ammunition.
The second individual, Raheem Smalling, aged 24, was charged with two counts of possession of Schedule I substances heroin and fentanyl, for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

According to Toronto criminal lawyers, trafficking is a serious offence that often carries minimum jail penalties. Specifically, “while the trafficking of marijuana or hashish has a minimum jail penalty if the amount is more than 3kg, trafficking of cocaine or heroin or possession for the purpose of trafficking always carries a minimum jail time.”

None of the men have been sentenced yet.
