Knights defeat Gators Friday night in Gainesville
The University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights RFC traveled to Gainesville Friday evening to take on the University of Florida (UF) Gators RFC in a rescheduled match (from Sept. 28). The match was played in honor of Alberto Cigarini, a Gaineville Hog rugger who suffered from a stroke after the club’s practice last Tuesday night, and passed away Sunday evening.
In the game, Head Coach Jason Granich and his Knights successfully defeated the Gators by a score of 35 to 20, improving UCF’s record to 4 wins and no losses, and extending the club’s winning streak to 25.
To win the match, the Knights scored five tries and five conversions to earn the club’s 35 points. The Gators were limited to three tries, one conversion, and one penalty kick to reach their total of 20 points. Both clubs will take part in this weekend’s upcoming All Florida Weekend Rugby Tournament in Tavares, Fla.
