‘Kiss protest’ in Turkey pushes back on attack on couple kissing in public

Dozens of couples have locked lips at a subway stop in Turkey’s capital, Ankara, to protest subway authorities’ admonishment of a couple that kissed in public.

Kissing became a topic in Turkey headlines and now a ‘Kiss protest’ attempts to push back on the topic of kissing in public

Some 100 people in the station kissed for several minutes in protest on Saturday.

Demonstrators carried signs reading “Free Kisses” and chanted slogans.

Turkish media reported that, earlier in the week, Ankara subway officials made an announcement asking passengers “to act in accordance with moral rules” after security cameras spotted the couple kissing.

The issue prompted an opposition lawmaker to question the ruling party, which many secularists fear wants to expand the role of Islam in Turkey, about whether subway officials were authorized to make such demands.

A pro-Islamist group of some 20 people staged a counter-protest.

Police set up barricades between the groups.

No word on plans to make official changes to the laws regarding public kissing or displays of affection.

MANY HOMOSEXUAL PUBLICATIONS LOVE TO TALK ABOUT THE RISING FREEDOM OF HOMOSEXUAL EXPRESSION IN THE MIDDLE-EAST; IN FACT, TURKEY HAS BECOME THE “POSTER CHILD” FOR “THE PLACE TO BE IN THE MIDDLE-EAST IF YOU ARE gay.” A FEW YEARS AGO, A HOMOSEXUAL MAGAZINE HAD AN ARTICLE ON THE LIFE OF A TURKISH-MALE HOMOSEXUAL-COUPLE AND THEIR FRIENDS. [A “lay-out” of their home (with the interior-decorating scheme; and, homosexual night-life (clubs) were included]. INDEED, IN RECENT YEARS, ALL-MALE ADULT-FILM STUDIOS HAVE MADE FILMS – ON LOCATION – IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE MIDDLE-EAST; AND, ARAB MALE-NUDES HAVE BECOME THE “NEW GENRE” IN ADULT ENTERTAINMENT ENJOYED BY CAUCASIAN-MALE HOMOSEXUALS.

MY POINT IS, SINCE ARAB NATIONS – LIKE, IRAN – CONSIDER HOMOSEXUALITY TO BE PUNISHABLE WITH DEATH [STONING, ETC.], IT IS QUITE SILLY FOR TURKEY TO RIDICULE HETEROSEXUAL COUPLES WHO KISS IN PUBLIC. WHEN THE gay-rights craze TAKES OVER IN TURKEY, WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN TWO MALES OR TWO FEMALES DO THE “KISS-IN THANG,” THAT WAS DONE IN UNITED STATES IN REFERENCE TO Chick-fil-A?

If you didn’t know public displays of affection are banned under decency laws in Turkey as well as Israel, Jordan, Cypress, Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Yemen, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and the State of Palestine. People can be fined and sentenced to jail for kissing in public. They have these laws because Muslim culture is predominate. The laws made by Turkey’s government are made with this culture in mind. They have also restricted alcohol use. The is one of the reasons they are having a kissing protest in the first place.

Also, homosexual relationships are legal in Turkey but the law does not recognize them like they do with heterosexual couples. They don’t even recognize civil unions or domestic partnerships so they get no benefits. There is no law protecting LBGT citizens from discrimination. It is also not a crime for two people of the same sex to have sexual conduct in private.

It doesn’t help to do a little research if you’re curious about a countries laws, government, civil, and human rights issues.

      Cheers.

        “Maki,”

I MAY BE NEWER TO THIS SITE THAN, YOU. SO, OUT OF COURTESY, I WILL EXPLAIN.

I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE LAWS AND CUSTOMS OF THE MIDDLE-EAST IN REFERENCE TO HOMOSEXUALITY. “Maki.” WHEN I MAKE COMMENTARY, IT IS USUALLY BECAUSE THE ARTICLE, AND/OR AN ACCOMPANYING GRAPHIC/PHOTOGRAPH AND/OR A SENTENCE/PHRASE/WORD “CAUGHT MY EYE.”

SO, “Maki,” WHEN YOU READ MY COMMENTARY DO NOT ASSUME I AM IGNORANT OF THE ISSUE – LOOK AT MY FOCUS, THEN, YOU WILL BE ABLE (HOPEFULLY) TO UNDERSTAND MY COMMENTARY.

[For clarification, this article “caught my eye” for two reasons:
        I). On various homosexual websites, there are stories about homosexual stonings in Iran and violence against homosexuals in Uganda, etc., and;
II). On various homosexual sites, photographs of Chick-fil-A “kiss-ins” can be seen. And, these sites have attacked Boston Mayor Menino].

Also, homosexuals are not allowed to show public displays of affection under the decency laws of Turkey just as heterosexuals.
