‘Kingsman’ star Sofia Boutella cast in ‘Star Trek 3’

From the blade-legged assassin Gazelle in Kingsman: The Secret Service, dancer turned actress Sofia Boutella is moving to a big franchise role, cast in the “lead role” for the third “new” Star Trek film.

Deadline reported on Friday that Boutella joins Star Trek 3, which “Justin Lin is directing from a script by cast member Simon Pegg and Doug Jung (creator of the TNT series Dark Blue).”

on to yet another highly anticipated project. According to Deadline, Boutella just scored “a lead role” in Star Trek 3. The outlet doesn’t have any details on her character, including whether she’s good or evil, but the author does reiterate that it’s a “lead role,” so she should have a significant presence in the film.

Sophia Boutella Kingsman Secret Service photoBoutella also had roles in a movie called Street Dance 2 and theMonsters sequel, Monsters: Dark Continent, and joins a franchise running on all cylinders after the success of Star Trek Into Darkness.

Back when Roberto Orci was the main creator, he said this will be the beginning of their “five-year mission.”

“They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space,” Orci said. “In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films – especially the 2009 [Star Trek] – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie.  So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space.”

Star Trek 3 is pegged for a 2016 release, coinciding with the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
