Kevin Feige loves the Ronda Rousey for ‘Captain Marvel’ campaign

One of the fan favorites for a future Marvel superhero role got a bit more interesting with Ronda Rousey fans echoing “He didn’t say ‘yes,’ but then again, he didn’t say, ‘no’ either.”

Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige has weighed in on a fan-inspired campaign to land Ronda Rousey the Captain Marvel role in upcoming film, praising the UFC women’s Bantamweight champion as an interesting candidate.

“I love it. That happens occasionally, and I think that’s a testament more to the strength of the characters,” Feige said during an interview with IGN.

“You look at the ways we’ve cast our films in the past and it’s always about who’s the best person to inhabit the character…. For us, it’s sitting down with people and starting to meet people and as the script takes shape and as we start to build who the character should be and finding the right person to match it up.”

The Rousey-as-Captain Marvel movement was started by Rousey herself during a Reddit AMA back in August when she responded to the fan question: “If you were to be in a superhero movie, which hero would you play?”

She answered, “Well… a lot of the good ones have been taken, but I’d like to vie for Miss Marvel.”

It didn’t take long for the imagination of fans to take over. Rousey has posted numerous fan-made art on her Twitter and Instagram social media accounts, further fueling interest in her involvement in the film.

According to Marvel Studios, she is the reincarnation of the comic book character Carol Danvers, making her debut in graphic novels back in 1968. She used to be a United States Air Force security chief right before an explosion exposed her to Kree technology and turned her into Captain Marvel. She is known to have superhuman abilities that include strength and flight. Those were said to have surfaced after her DNA was infused with a Kree alien.

Captain Marvel is scheduled for theaters on Nov. 2, 2018. Nobody has been cast for any of the roles yet, according to Feige.
