Katherine Waterston stars in new ‘Alien Covenant’ photo

Fans will now get to connect the events from Prometheus to those in the classic Ridley Scott film, Alien, as Alien: Covenant arrives this year. Other than Michael Fassbender and a short cameo-style appearance by Noomi Rapace, Covenant will have a new cast, headlined by Katherine Waterston, featured in a new photo.

Scott has learned the following from five decades of directing: “It’s hard to scare people,” he says. “It’s a lot easier to make people laugh. But to really scare the sh– out of somebody? That’s difficult.”

Scott has been doing exactly that ever since we saw a monster burst out of a man’s chest in 1979’s Alien.

If 2012’s kinda-sorta Alien prequel Prometheus was confusing, Scott says this film will provide some answers. “Covenant is really going to show you who did it and why.”

Michael Fassbender returns as David alongside Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez and Katherine Waterston, who most recently starred in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Waterston was wowed by her director. “He’s a master! He’s got the energy of 10 25-year-olds,” she says. Plus, “he’s sadistic. He loves the thought of making people scream in a cinema.”

Scott has been working quickly in post-production on the film as the Blade Runner director originally intended for Prometheus to kick off a new prequel franchise that would tie to Alien franchise.

“This Alien is going to be… I’m very excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see. It’s much scarier than Prometheus but it’s got the same sort of scope of Prometheus….” Fassbender said of the new film.

“It’s kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus… Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really gonna bring chills to the cinema.”

Now the android encounters a new crew of explorers, but to the surprised of fans, Fassbender will actually be playing two different androids.

20th Century Fox has also decided to move up the release of Alien: Covenant from August 4, 2017 to May 19, 2017.
