Karen Gillan discusses her ‘Jumanji’ costume, ‘there’s a valid reason for it’
Fans responded to the first official photo from the upcoming reboot of Jumanji with questions about Karen Gillan’s revealing outfit. Now the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star addresses the costume during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’ve experienced something similar when I worked on Doctor Who and there was such an uproar about my costume when that was first revealed, so I thought it was happening all over again,” Gillan told THR.
The photo below puts Gillan alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black. Back on Doctor Who, she played companion Amy Pond from 2010-2013 in a British police uniform with a very short skirt, which drew criticism.
In the actual show it was revealed she wasn’t a police officer but rather a “kiss-o-gram.”
Gillan went on to say that the Jumanji costume also has a deeper meaning.
“But I have to say, I’d never take on a role that was truly gratuitous for no reason.” she said. “There’s a really valid reason why she’s wearing that. My character is really not happy about it!”
Nick Jonas also stars with Ser’Darius Blain and Madison Iseman.
Jake Kasdan (Orange County and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) will be directing the new film, confirmed to be a continuation of the story first told in the 1995 film with Robin Williams.
The new Jumanji film arrives in theaters on December 22, 2017.
