Kacey Heberlein, Chris Bankert identified as Colorado couple found dead
Castle Rock Police say a 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were found dead early Sunday morning inside a home in Colorado. Now they’ve been identified as Kacey Heberlein and Chris Bankert, high school sweethearts since Bear Creek High School.
Local officers were asked to do a welfare check after Kacey missed an appointment with a family member. Other friends also contacted police, reportedly “concerned” which led to the Douglas County Regional SWAT team responding – they found the two dead.
One source describes the scene as “suspicious” but refused to clarify if that meant: homicide, murder suicide or something else.
Sources confirm to The Dispatch that the couple had been together since they were teenages and Chris bought the home in June.
9NEWS reached Heberlein’s friend, who said she was “really funny, really down to earth, cool to hang around.” She loved hockey.
“Everyone at work really liked her,” the friend, who wanted to remain anonymous, said. “Just a really fun person to be around.”
The autopsies are scheduled for Monday. The coroner will confirm the identities and determine the cause of death.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends during this horrible tragedy.
