‘Jupiter Asending,’ ‘Blackhat,’ ‘Seventh Son’ top list of 2015 bombs

2015 movies haven’t gotten off to a great start with five big film which have fallen flat: Jupiter Ascending, Seventh Son, Blackhat, Mortdecai and Strange Magic – totally an estimated loss of over $360 million.

According to Pajiba, using domestic box office grosses subtracted from the estimated budgets, 2015 is historically bad, comparing the data against the 2014 duds.

2015 -$362 million

Jupiter Ascending (-$127 million)
Seventh Son (-$79 million)
Blackhat (-$63 million)
Mortdecai (-$63 million)
Strange Magic (-$30 million, estimated)

2014 -$265 million

Pompeii (-$77 million)
The Legend of Hercules (-$52 million)
Winter’s Tale (-$48 million)
I, Frankenstein (-$46 million)
Robocop (-$42 million)

Slash Film notes that “January and February are traditionally two of the weakest months both in terms of box office and critical acclaim. Well, it turns out this year has been historically bad…January and February are traditionally two of the weakest months both in terms of box office and critical acclaim. Just think that there films starred Channing Tatum, Chris Hemsworth, Johnny Depp, Oscar winner Julianne Moore and the final 2015 film was a Disney pic – box office doomsday.

Wanna bet studios can’t wait for Avengers, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Terminator and a new Pixar film to get here.
