Joss Whedon confirms ‘Agents of SHIELD’ ties to ‘Avengers Age of Ultron’ but not an ‘Easter egg farm’
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will feature “fun” crossovers with the company’s big-screen blockbusters.
The ABC TV drama will not be an “Easter egg farm”, Joss Whedon told reporters at the TCA press tour, but will feature a number of elements from films such as the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.
“There will be as much [crossover] as we can allow,” said Whedon. “We’re still working that out; it’s a fluid process.
“It’s a fun opportunity [to have the two worlds meet], but it’s not the reason behind the show.”
Clark Gregg – who plays Agent Phil Coulson on the show – previously praised the SHIELD pilot’s “incredibly visual effects and stunts“.
“After the pilot, I figured the next episode would be us stuck in an elevator because they spent all their money,” the actor quipped. “But the second [episode] is bigger [and] more exciting.”
Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker also star in the comic book drama.
Cobie Smulders, who played Agent Maria Hill in The Avengers, has been confirmed to feature in the pilot episode.
The actress recently suggested that she would be interested in returning on a regular basis after she finishes work on the upcoming final season of How I Met Your Mother.
“They are an amazing cast,” she said. “They have amazing storylines and if they want to write one that involves me, I’d be happy to do it, but we’ll see.”
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will premiere on ABC on September 24.
