Josh Pence ‘Social Network’ cast as Batman villain
With Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Alberto Falcone and Marion Cotillard as Talia (still unofficial) – Batman will have his hands full in 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises”, the third Christopher Nolan Batman film.Yesterday Batman fans discovered “Rises” will have yet another villain.
Now the casting of Josh Pence (Tyler Winklevoss in “The Social Network”) has been confirmed to play a younger Ra’s Al Ghul.
Ra’s was played by Liam Neeson in “Batman Begins” and Cotillard is said to be Ra’s daughter Talia Al Ghul. Batman’s mentor turned enemy is a story that runs through the comic books for decades.
The young Pence will portray the villain in flashbacks and according to THR: “Sources say Pence will appear in scenes that take place 30 years prior to the present story.”
Writer David S. Goyer previously claimed that Ra’s is the most complex of all the Batman villains, saying “He’s not crazy in the way that all the other Batman villains are. He’s not bent on revenge; he’s actually trying to heal the world. He’s just doing it by very draconian means.”
“Rises” is set for release on July 20, 2012.
Pence followed up his role in “The Social Network” with a slightly more noticeable one in upcoming action blockbuster “Battleship”, also with Neeson and Taylor Kitsch.
