Josh Gad on 500th Larry King Now episode: ‘Frozen 2’ ‘The Comedians’ ‘Gilligan’s Island’ movie

For the milestone 500th episode of Emmy nominated series Larry King Now, the legend himself sits down with the hilarious Josh Gad to chat about his hit TV show The Comedians and how he just might be the busiest man in Hollywood.

“I was honoring Billy Crystal at an event, which I joke around is the only way that you get to meet Billy Crystal, is by honoring him at an event, and Billy said, ‘You know, Josh, I’ve got a new show […] and I would love for you to take a look at it based on this Swedish show, and it’s about the disconnect between a younger comedian and a veteran comedian.’”

“I watched the Swedish show, and I said, ‘Oh god, I’m in. This is exactly what I didn’t want to do, but I’m going to commit to this, it’s brilliant.’ And working with an idol, like Billy Crystal, it’s a master class in comedy.”

“I call myself Josh Gad, he calls himself Billy Crystal. It’s very confusing when fake Josh Gad has to say mean things to fake Billy Crystal, and afterwards real Josh Gad says to real Billy Crystal, ‘I don’t know what that guy feels, but I don’t feel that way about you.’” – on playing himself in The Comedians

Frozen cast Olaf Disney photosThe famous voice behind Olaf in Frozen, Josh Gad admitted to Larry he almost missed out on the role, “At the time I was committed to another animated movie, and I wasn’t allowed to do Frozen. And I begged and I pleaded with this other company and I said, ‘Can I please do it? It’s a small little role, it’s probably not gonna be anything, do you mind if i do it?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, if you don’t do press for it, if you don’t do publicity for it, I’ll let you do it.’ Somehow Disney agreed to that, and Olaf became the face for that marketing campaign, to which I’m sure the other company was not very happy.” (clip below)

The talented entertainer revealed his conflicting thoughts on the controversy surrounding fellow comedian Bill Cosby, “It’s hard because I grew up loving The Cosby Show. I mean he’s one of the greatest comics of all time and you can’t take that away from him. But when you view him in the spotlight of all these accusations, it’s hard.” (clip below)

Larry King Now bannerWill Josh play Gilligan in his upcoming film adaptation of Gilligan’s Island? Though he wouldn’t reveal, Josh gave Larry some details on the film he is co-writing, “I’m really excited about it. We’re trying to take a very different approach. The show is so beloved and we need to kind of modernize it but also pay homage to the original, so we’re figuring it out.” (clip below)

And let there be cake! Josh Gad helped surprise Larry by bringing out a cake to commemorate the 500th episode of Larry King Now. Since launching his own entertainment digital network Ora.TV in 2012, King’ web-series Larry King Now has received numerous award wins and nominations including the Emmys, Webby, Streamy, IAWTV, Peabody, Shorty awards and more! Now currently in our 3rd season (with new episodes still premiering every Monday, Wednesday & Friday), we are looking forward to launching season 4 this July! (clip below)
