Joseph Gordon-Levitt ‘interested’ in ‘Dark Knight Rises’ spinoff

Fans who haven’t seen “The Dark Knight Rises” may want to skip this article as Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s role and crucial details surrounding his character would be spoiled by his latest comments and predictions.  The “50/50” star is overseas promoting his new film, “Looper,” but addressed the future of the Batman franchise with the Hindu Times on Wednesday.

Warner Bros is certainly moving forward with a “Justice League” film, but no details surrounding a new Batman film or script has been released. The interview was astute to poignantly asked the star his thoughts on a Batman spinoff, taking the lead or becoming Robin as the film’s ending implies.

“It’s amazing and so wonderful to be part of a film like [The Dark Knight Rises],” JGL said “But as far as Robin is concerned, that’s not up to me. I don’t have the rights to that character. If there’s a script I find inspiring and a filmmaker I have a connection with, I’m interested.”

Back in August, while visiting the Jimmy Kimmel Show, the “Lincoln” praised the ending and the fate of his character, John Blake.

“I don’t think [the ending of The Dark Knight Rises] is necessarily a set-up. I think it is the great ending for that trilogy,” he said. “Even if you go back to Batman Begins, he’s talking about how Batman is more than a man, it’s a symbol, and a hero can be anybody and we all have heroes inside of us.”

The actor’s current film is a time travel tale co-starring with Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt.

“Looper is a redemption story in a way. It’s not one of those time travel movies that are really only about that. It uses time travel as a springboard to ask a basic human question — what would you say to your future self if you could meet them?”

The “Inception” star will next be featured in Steven Spielberg’s bio “Lincoln” as Robert Todd Lincoln, coming to theaters on November 16, 2012.
