John Malkovich: ‘Red’ sequel ready to go to production

Actor John Malkovich, one of the stars of the Golden Globe nominated movie Red has confirmed the script for the sequel to the 2010 film is almost finished, and talk has started of setting a start date for filming.

Malkovich spoke to 3 News Entertainment Reporter Kate Rodger at the premiere of his latest film Transformers: Dark of the Moon in Moscow, and he confirmed he’d just spoken with one of the film’s producers Mark Vahradian about the script.

“I spoke with Mark yesterday,” said Malkovich. “I had dinner with Mark and Lorenzo (Lorenzo di Bonaventura – Producer) in January when I got back from Sydney, they were talking about the script was being done, now they have it.

“I don’t know if there will be another draft or certainly another draft or polish, but they seem pretty happy with it, they were starting to talk about when. I haven’t spoken with Bruce Willis, and I don’t know what his schedule is. I think everybody would be up for it, so I hope so.”

Malkovich has fond memories of shooting Red, and of his fellow gun-toting co-stars Dame Helen Mirren and Kiwi Karl Urban.

“Helen Mirren and I went to the armory, the armory had a sign that said, ‘If you know how many guns you have, you don’t have enough,’” said Malkovich.

“And this wasn’t even America, this was Canada! Helen said, we have to take a picture of us under that sign, and that’s gonna be my Christmas card, and I said fantastic.”

An official production start date for the sequel to Red has not yet been announced.
