John Lasseter details ‘Toy Story 4’ Bo Peep, Woody love story, ‘inspired by wife’

A key of news from Disney’s D23 Expo is that Toy Story 4 will indeed center around Woody and Bo Peep, the journey to get her and director John Lasseter talked about the inspiration behind the love story.

As we were looking around we came up with this idea because Bo Peep was not in Toy Story 3, and it actually worked beautifully into this….so Woody and Buzz light-year go out to find Bo Peep and bring her back, and it’s a very special and emotional love story. But it’s extremely funny too,” Lasseter began.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are confirmed to return as the iconic duo, but there was no word on Annie Potts be being to voice Bo Peep.

What we wanted to do was find a type a story that we had not done in a Toy Story before, and really our goal is to create something really original, something that’s different from what you’ve seen before. In every sequel that Pixar does we try to do something that is very different from the original, but is as good in a different way.”

In a very personal manner, Lasseter then revealed the personal inspiration for the love story.

I’ve been very inspired by my wife Nancy‘s story in her life before I met her. It’s an incredible story, and it’s been sort of a bit of an inspiration for this.”

Co-directed by Josh Cooley (Inside Out writer), TS4 will have Don Rickles back to voice Potato Head.

Toy Story 4 will arrive in theaters on June 16, 2017.

As the Toy Story 4 D23 presentation ended Randy Newman came on stage, sang ‘You Got a Friend in Me’ with green Army men dropping from the ceiling, the gang of characters danced on stage and a 20th anniversary logo was displayed.
