John Gallik, Florida man, killed in ‘stand your ground case’ after dog knocks over sign

An Apollo Beach was shot and killed by his neighbor after a bizarre altercation in Thursday.

Homicide detectives report that John E. Gallik, age 52, raced out of his home to confront David Cockerham, age 67, who was walking his dog. Cockerham’s dog apparently knocked over a sign in Gallik’s yard and the man charged Cockerham with a butter knife, threatened him and yelled profanities.

The Del Webb retirement community became site of a murder case when the man lunged and attacked Cockerham, who pulled his .38, fired one shot, hitting Gallik in the upper torso.

Cockerham immediately contacted 911 and waited at the scene for deputies to arrive, police reported.

No charges have been filed and the man has been released.

  1. Paulie Walnuts says:

The “Retirement Community” failed when they allowed the tattooed, motorcycle riding 52 year old Hell’s Angel kid to invade the neighborhood. 52 is still young; at 52 one can still display traits of juvenile delinquency. Retirement communities should be for those over 65 only. At 65, everyone automatically becomes a saint.
