Jerry Sandusky guilty on 45 sex abuse charges

The jury informed Judge John Cleland it has reached a verdict on the 48 counts of child sex abuse against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky – guilty on 45 sex abuse charges.

Reuters details how Sandusky, 68, faces potentially hundreds of years in prison for molesting 10 boys over 15 years.

He was escorted immediately out of the courthouse in handcuffs and taken into an awaiting sheriff’s cruiser.

One of the victims who had testified burst into tears as the verdict was read. Sandusky, meanwhile, stood and faced the foreman and appeared expressionless, tucking his hands into his pockets.

Tim King, vice president of the Pittsburgh chapter of the Nittany Lion Club, took a different attitude when he heard the news.

Almost immediately after the jury reached its verdict, King attempted to rally a portion of Penn State nation late Friday night when he posted to his Facebook account.

King’s message included the following excerpt under the heading “No One Man”:

“The message that all of us in the Penn State family needs to carry from this moment is this: Jerry Sandusky does not represent us. No single man is capable of destroying the good acts of millions past, present and future. We will not allow this moment in our history to define who we are…”
