Jeremy Jordan joins ‘Supergirl’ as Toyman, filming begins
CBS has announced another cast member for the new Supergirl TV show as Jeremy Jordan (The Last Five Years) has just been cast as Winslow “Winn” Schott, a tech guy who works with Kara in her civilian life. Production on the pilot has begun and fans are anxious to see a tease of the upcoming show.
According to DC Comics mythos, Schott is the alias of the supervillain Toyman. TheWrap reports that Jordan will have a guest role in the pilot, with the potential to recur as the series goes on.
Winn is described as “a tech genius and superstar IT whiz” who is a co-worker and neighbor of Kara’s, and in line with other superhero shows, he has a bit of a crush on her.
The series centers around Melissa Benoist‘s Kara, a Kryptonian who came to Earth just as her home planet was destructing. After years of trying to blend in, she finally decides to embrace her abilities and become the superhero she was always destined to be.
Jordan is a Broadway vet whose credits include Newsies and Bonnie & Clyde, but is best known for his regular role on the second season of NBC’s Smash. Jordan starred opposite Anna Kendrick in the indie musical The Last Five Years.
When she’s not saving the world, Kara works for a media company called CatCo, run by the formidable Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart).
CatCo also employs photographer Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), who’ll likely serve as a love interest to Kara.
Other characters include Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), Kara’s science-minded foster sister; Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (note here: Henshaw is the character who becomes Cyborg Superman); and Laura Benanti as Kara’s birth mom.
Former Superman Dean Cain and former Supergirl Helen Slater have also signed on for mystery roles. Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler are writing the series and will executive produce along with Sarah Schecter and Andrew Kreisberg.
Berlanti is one of the creators behind Arrow and The Flash, led the excitement on Twitter as the production began.
