Jeff Goldblum says ‘Independence Day Resurgence’ a ‘global spectacle’ and returning for ‘Jurassic World 2’

While the new Super Bowl ad will have fans excited, Slash Film talked with Jeff Goldblum about Independence Day: Resurgence in a newly published interview. Goldblum returns as David Levinson and the character’s role is even bigger in the sequel.

Jeff Goldblum in Independence Day Resurgence photo“Who do you think is the director of Earth Space Defense? I don’t want to toot my own horn, but yes, they made me the director. How about that? That’s a big career jump. I was working for that cable company and riding a bicycle. But of course, it sort of makes sense too. Because I was an environmentalist, wasn’t I, which came from a deeply organic place. And I care deeply…about the planet, and the lifeforms on it, including all the animals too. And I don’t like anybody coming and messing with it.”

It took twenty years but director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin finally deliver what fans clamored for.

“We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.”

Slash Film even asked Goldblum about returning to the Jurassic Park franchise, ‘Is there a chance he could return for Jurassic World 2? Goldblum says:

Oh, I don’t know. I can’t imagine. Who knows what the future holds?

Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher are the young stars taking lead in this adventure. As he mentioned, Goldblum’s character is back in space as part of the Earth Space Defense program, the worldwide initiative created with the goal of being prepared if the aliens ever returned, complete with a base on the moon. This is where Liam Hemsworth‘s character is working, and it looks like he has a romance with Whitmore’s daughter, played by It Follows star Maika Monroe.

Usher plays Captain Steven Hiller’s son, taking the aerial fight to space this time, with Will Smith absent as Hiller died in between the two films, a detail which will be developed in the story.

President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) is rumored to have a connection to the aliens after learning the plans of their species through a psychic connection in the first film. The beard shows us that he is out of politics with a new president making the difficult calls.

Resurgence will also have Brent Spiner, Judd Hirsch and Vivica Fox returning to reprise their roles from the first film with Joey King, William Fichtner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Ryan Cartwright and Sela Ward all have joined the cast.

Independence Day: Resurgence arrives on June 24.
