Jason Momoa on ‘Aquaman’ being ‘best moment of my career’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ role
Jason Momoa says landing the role of Aquaman led to the “best moment” of his career during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, adding how grateful he is to be part of the DC Cinematic Universe.
“I haven’t been an actor who’s been able to pick and choose roles, and being a family man, it’s been about putting food on the table,” Momoa said. “This has been the best moment of my career because the superhero roles are letting me get the other roles I want.”
Momoa, 37, was cast as Aquaman in 2014 after rumors he was set to be the motion capture actor for Doomsday in last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He was a popular choice after playing Khal Drogo on the HBO series Game of Thrones.
“You get a lot of respect for Game of Thrones and it was a lot of fun to play, but it didn’t help my career a lot because Khal Drogo doesn’t even speak English,” Momoa said in the interview.
Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) constitute the Justice League at the start of the new film with Henry Cavill’s Superman appearing to sacrifice himself in the battle with Doomsday to save humanity.
Jesse Eisenberg will reprise his role of Lex Luthor with Ciaran Hinds as the featured DC Comics bad guy: Steppenwolf.
Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Diane Lane as Mrs. Kent will be part of the cast with (presumably) Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne. Newcomers are J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta (who will be introduced in Wonder Woman) and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.
Momoa will star in a standalone Aquaman film with Heard and Patrick Wilson as the prime villain: Ocean Master. Aquaman arrives in theaters on October 5, 2018.
Justice League will hit theaters on November 17, 2017. Here’s the official synopsis:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
