Jamisha Gilbert identified as Virginia woman found dead, police investigation ongoing

Lynchburg Police say they continue to investigate the death of Jamisha Gilbert, found dead after being reported missing.

Jamisha GilbertInvestigators sent the body to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for an autopsy, said Lynchburg Police Lt. Dave Gearhart in a news conference.

Gilbert, age 18, was found in a “heavily wooded area” near the intersection of the Concord Turnpike and U.S. 460 Gearhart detailed.

Authorities are treating the case as an “incident that involves a suspicious death.”

They also so no information has been obtained that would lead investigators to believe that this case is in any way related to the missing person case involving Alexis Murphy.

Also, investigators say they haven’t received any information that would lead them to believe the public is in any immediate danger.

Her body was found shortly after officials located her car, wrecked into a guard rail.

B.B. Shavers with the SHOPO group had met with Jamisha’s mother the day before. He was in the process of making missing person flyers to hand out around town when he got the call from family that her body had been found.

“Anytime any life gets cut short, especially an honor roll student doing positive things inside a community…its a tragedy.”

“She was a wonderful person she didn’t bother anybody.”
