James Frain joins ‘Gotham’ season 2 – villain details revealed
James Frain (True Blood, Agent Carter) has signed on for Gotham season 2 as a “major villain,” who greatly impacts the show and other characters.
Frain will play Theo Galavan, described as “the savior the city has been waiting for…sexy, heroic, and lovingly devoted to his sister Tabitha…But behind Galavan’s altruism is a centuries-old vendetta. Galavan and Tabitha (aka Tigress) will take chaos and violence to a new level in order to bleed Gotham. Their plan will lead to the creation of new villains… and the destruction of others.”
Deadline notes that “Frain is currently recurring on the second season of HBO’s True Detective and has been recurring on BBC America’s Orphan Black. His feature credits include TRON: Legacy and Water for Elephants.
Cory Michael Smith’s Edward Nygma will take a more central role as he heads down the path to becoming the Riddler. At the 2015 Fox Upfront event in New York City, the audience was promised both the Joker and Mr. Freeze will appear in season two. TV Line now reports that Morena Baccarin, who plays Dr. Leslie Thompkins, has been upped to series regular for season 2.
Nicholas D’Agosto will return as Harvey Dent, also a regular in season 2, so expect more hints at his Two-Face duality and hidden darkness.
“We’re going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker (played by Cameron Monaghan) we met earlier in this season, connects with the Joker as people known him,” Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller told The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We’re going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be…That’s teaser enough, I think.”
Stayed tuned as other news will certainly drop.
