A Florida woman died early Saturday after a car plowed through the side of her home while she was sleeping, Sarasota police said. The Tampa woman driving is facing charges of vehicular homicide.

Jakeilah Weeks, 24, broke into her ex-boyfriend’s nearby home and took off in the car at about 3:30 a.m., MyFoxTampaBay.comreported. Weeks then  crashed the vehicle into Eleanor Ball’s home.

Ball, 62, was sleeping in her bedroom at the time of the crash. Weeks is now facing several charges including vehicular homicide, burglary, and battery, the report said.

Weeks was reportedly “running from the police” who responded to the domestic situation at the home of the ex-boyfriend, police said. When they attempted to make contact with Weeks, she sped away, police said.

The officers ran on foot so they could see where Weeks was driving as she sped away. That’s when they say they saw her crash into Ball’s home.

10 News in Tampa adds that Ball was a nutritionist at Sarasota Memorial for 31 years, retiring in 2005. After she retired from the hospital she became focused on trying to get the community and youth aware of their health through nutrition by acting as site facilitator for Truvine Teen Clinic.

Ball also served on the local and state Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society and was a volunteer leader in their Relay for Life. Eleanor was also a board member of Gulfcoast South Area Health Education Center, chaired the African American Health Summit for four years, and was Director of Church Ministries at Truvine Missionary Baptist Church.
