Islamic terror attack in New York by Sayfullo Saipov leaves 8 dead

The man taken into custody by the New York Police Department after Tuesday’s terror attack that killed at least eight has been identified as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov.

Saipov, 29, hailed from Tampa, Florida according to an ABC News tweet and has been confirmed to be a Uzbek national and came to the U.S. in 2010. Additional reports chronicle a police stop in March 2015 where he gave officers a New Jersey address.

The terrorist dodged cars in lower Manhattan, driving a rental truck in the bike path before exiting the vehicle with a gun, shouting “Allahu Akbar” and then opening fire.

Early reports claimed the man was running through traffic on West Street with what appeared to be a BB gun and paintball gun after his rented Home Depot truck crashed into a school bus and pole.

A police officer was also shot and sustained minor injuries in the attack.

Police shot and wounded the extremist, who is now being treated at Bellevue Hospital and remained in custody.

Mayor Bill De Blasio: “It’s a very painful day in our city. This was an act of terror, a particularly cowardly act of terror aimed at civilians going about their lives. We know of eight innocent people who have lost their lives and more than a dozen injured.

“New Yorkers are strong and resilient and our spirits will not be broken by an act of violence. New Yorkers do not give in.”

“In NYC, looks like another attack by a very sick and deranged person. Law enforcement is following this closely. NOT IN THE U.S.A.!” tweeted President Trump.
