Ilhan Omar: Our next president should declare National Emergency to address the ‘existential threat to all life’: climate change
Just as President Trump’s announced “National Emergency” is declared, leftist Rep. Ilhan Omar turned to Twitter to forecast what this abuse of authority will look like under Democratic leadership.
“Our next President should declare a #NationalEmergency on day 1 to address the existential threat to all life on the planet posed by Climate Change.” – Ilhan MN tweeted Friday.
Forbes posted an entire article declaring just that: “6 Compelling Reasons Climate Change Might be a National Emergency.”
This will be the new narrative.
The president’s declaration is likely to draw a court challenge, and Republicans on Capitol Hill had privately and publicly urged Trump to avoid such a move, fearing a future Democratic president could declare a national emergency on climate change, gun control or other liberal priorities.
Wait…wait…it doesn’t have to wait until 2020 as Oregon Democratic Rep. Earl Blumenauer on Friday announced his intention to introduce a resolution that would make climate change a national emergency.
“If Trump can call a national emergency for a fake crisis at the border, then surely Congress should call a national emergency for a REAL crisis,” he said in a statement.
Blumenauer called Trump’s decision “profoundly disturbing” in a letter to fellow lawmakers.
“What our country should be doing right now is focusing efforts on addressing a real national emergency and one of the most pressing issues of our time: the climate crisis,” he said.
Blumenauer is one of the House sponsors of the Green New Deal, which seeks to restructure all of American culture with free health care, college, a ban on air travel, corporate farming and many other socialist programs.
