Idaho man, Joe Hundley, faces assault charges after slapping a toddler on Delta flight

Federal investigators confirmed charges of a 60-year-old passenger for allegedly assaulting a 19-month-old toddler aboard a Delta Airlines plane on Feb. 8. New information suggests the man may have used the “N-Word” on the Atlanta-bound flight and may have been drunk at the time.

On Feb. 15, KBOI2 out of Boise reported that Joe Rickey Hundley, 60, from Hayden, faces a charge of simple assault. The child’s mother, Jessica Bennett, 33, said the man slapped her crying toddler when the plane was preparing for a landing last Friday.

Joe Hundley slaps child airplane flightBennett told authorities the boy was crying as the plane prepared for landing. Bennett says Hundley was sitting next to her and slapped the boy in his face, causing a scratch under his right eye. She says Hundley used a racial epithet while demanding her to quiet the boy.

Hundley “told her to shut that (‘N word’) baby up,” FBI special agent Daron Cheney said in the affidavit. “Ms. Bennett received assistance from several people on the plane, including male passenger Todd Wooten.” Cheney said.

Bennett told TheSmokingGun.com that Hundley “reeked of alcohol” and was “stumbling around wasted,” and complained to her that her adopted son was too big to be a lap baby.

District attorneys officials say Hundley was not taken into custody and it is unclear when the case will go to court.

“We think that it is important to let the case develop, and we’ll see how it all comes out,” Hundley’s attorney Marcia Shein said Friday.

I don’t care what color you are. You do not lay your hands on another person’s child. PERIOD. If someone did that to my child, I would destroy them.

Oh, get over it. He didn’t even have 200 lbs on that kid. That kid is expecting entitlements, he should be out working instead of riding around on an airplane doing nothing but annoying drunks. He should have his little hands firmly on his bootstraps and be pulling himself up. He already felt entitled to loving parents…what will he be demanding next – the little leach.

He had his right to life, now he has his right to take $hit from arrogant, Christian White men. He’s probably gay, too.

Just for that flight, for that moment I wish too God I was that woman, the mother?boy you wouldn’t be able to ever!! make a basic human motion or movement for the rest of your life buddy!!! Boy I really do hope he’s proud of his pathetic self!

  9. James GRiffin says:

Stupid @SS#ole. When the plane descends even in a pressurized cabin it hurts the child’s ears, that’s why the baby was crying. They should throw that D*ck into the bullpen at the county lockup and tell the other inmates why he’s there and what he did. If by some miracle he comes out alive he’ll have at least learned some manners.

  10. rickster says:

he should have been hauled off that plane and put in jail charged with battery of a child and assault. joe rickey is nothing but a worthless drunk and he ought to be in jail for what he did. people go to jail for doing far less on a plane.

black man slaps 19 month old white baby for crying on airline flight.

Black man taken into custody immediately and jailed until further notice. White parents sue airline for not protecting their child.

    • Your Name... says:

That is old tired bullshit. This guy should have been arrested and horse whipped, but the “if he was black” myth is crap and has been for a long, long time

      • Sarah m says:

The myth that the”if he was black” argument is a myth has been tried for much much longer. Like hundreds of years longer.

Touch my kid and I’d claw your eyes out.

  13. Dana Hein says:

Why was this man not arrested and taken into custody immediately upon disembarkation? If this is true, there were a number of witnesses. If he was under the influence, he should have been taken to have his blood alcohol checked. There is no reason, if this happened as reported that this man is not in jail for assault and battery of a minor. If I was his mother I would be in jail for screaming and yelling (“disturbing the peace”) when the cops weren’t there upon arrival and not arresting him. If it is because of who he is, then it is even more of a crime against all of us.

  14. Norman Scott says:

Just let me say this……..Had he slapped my child they would have taking me in handcuffs….He would be so injured..and that of hair went out in the 70’s..old ass racist geezer…I am so tired of looking at them…He will have to go to jail…or hell…..no other options…

  15. Desiderio says:

    Why wasn’t he immediately arrested?!
