ICC Report: South Sudan Civil War death toll reaches 400K dead

(International Christian Concern) –The civil war in South Sudan has claimed nearly 400,000 civilian lives. This is many more than were originally thought to have died. The original count was around 300,000.

For nearly five years the war has threatened the lives of the 12 million South Sudanese. More than 2 million were displaced within their own country, while another 2 million had to flee to other countries. It is also one of the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. It not only involved the violence of the war, but also a major problem with food insecurity.

Though the country has signed several peace agreements in the past, most notably in 2015, they have never held. Recently, South Sudan’s government and the rebels signed another peace agreement to end the war. Hopefully this time it holds and the country can start to rebuild.
