Ian McShane says ‘Hellboy’ will surprise, praises David Harbour, new TV spots and photos
Ian McShane believes the upcoming Hellboy reboot will “surprise” people and praised David Harbour’s performance in the film as new promotional material arrives. Lionsgate has released two fiery new TV spots, featuring the titular demon doing his best to stop Nimue the Blood Queen (Milla Jovovich) from starting the incoming apocalypse.
McShane shared in a recent interview with The New York Times that he believes the film will “surprise” people: “I think that’s going to surprise a lot of people. David [Harbour of “Stranger Things”] is a marvelous actor. He just fills out the role. It was nice and bittersweet taking over [Professor Bruttenholm] from a dear old friend of mine, John Hurt. But it’s not Part 3. It’s a complete reboot of [Guillermo del Toro’s] “Hellboy,” and I think they picked the right guy in David. It was a pleasure to work with him and be in Bulgaria for three weeks, a country I’ve never been to before. Greatest fresh vegetables I’ve ever tasted. And the scripts are funny and smart and bright, and the action is fantastic, and I have grandkids who love all that. They can’t wait.
Directed by Neil Marshall from a script co-written by character creator Mike Mignola, Andrew Cosby, and Christopher Golden, the film stars Harbour, Jovovich, McShane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Sasha Lane.
Hellboy will be released in theaters on April 12, 2019.
Synopsis: Hellboy is back, and he’s on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola’s seminal work, this action packed story sees the legendary half-demon superhero (David Harbour, “Stranger Things”) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil series), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.
