‘I Am Heath Ledger’ documentary arrives in cinemas May 3 for one-night event

An insightful new feature-length documentary celebrating the life and work of the late actor Heath Ledger brings a new understanding of the man behind his public image. Ledger was one of the most gifted Hollywood talents in a generation, who appeared in a string of seminal films including the culturally defining “Brokeback Mountain,” and in “The Dark Knight,” for which he won a posthumous Academy Award®. However, Ledger was so much more than the characters he depicted on screen, and audiences will come to know that side of him as well during a special cinema event.

Presented by Fathom Events in partnership with Network Entertainment and co-produced by Spike TV, the feature-length version of “I Am Heath Ledger” will play in U.S. movie theaters for one night on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. local time. This special cinema presentation will include an additional segment exclusive to movie theater audiences, featuring never-before-seen footage of interviews with Heath‘s family and friends, sharing their personal stories about and memories of the legendary actor and artist.

Following its cinema debut, Spike TV will show an edited version of the documentary on May 17.

Tickets for “I Am Heath Ledger” are available online at www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in more than 300 select movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

Heath Ledger was a versatile artist whose talents spanned a broad array of mediums, including a love for photography, music and directing. He often rejected the trappings of Hollywood, instead creating an environment for himself which fostered his own passions and those of his friends and family. “I Am Heath Ledger” illustrates Ledger’s artistic output through both clips of his iconic film performances, as well as through the images he captured as a photographer and videographer. Extravagant in gesture and in action, it was this energy and unshakable willingness to take risks that instilled such a deep love and affection in those people closest to him.

“It’s truly an honor to partner with Network Entertainment for this fascinating and inspiring feature, documenting the too-short life of Heath Ledger, one of this generation’s greatest talents,” Fathom Events CEO John Rubey said. “We are thrilled to help bring this event to big screens nationwide.”

“We are excited that audiences will get to experience ‘I Am Heath Ledger’ on the big screen,” said Network Entertainment’s Derik Murray, the film’s producer and co-director with Adrian Buitenhuis. “The beauty of Heath’s work and the never-before-seen footage that Heath filmed himself throughout his life will make for a magical theatrical experience.”
